Each January there is always much speculation as to what new technologies we can expect to see in the coming year.  Usually this speculation comes from the annual CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, where companies from around the world go to show the hot, new boundary-pushing products they have in store for us.  Technologies we are now very familiar with have all made their early appearances here—everything from smartphones to social media platforms to contactless payment.

Here we have compiled a list of what we see as the most interesting products shown at the CES this year.

Volkswagen Golf R Touch Concept Car

Unlike some other concept cars which drive themselves, the Golf has gone the other direction—allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel at all times.  Volkswagen’s new Golf R Touch concept car makes it so hand movements via a 3D camera trigger volume, lighting and other features without you actually touching the dashboard.

Samsung’s New SUHD TV

You guessed it, there is an even better TV out there now, thanks to Samsung’s SUHD.  SUHD stands for SUPER ultra high-definition.  These TV’s claim to have eco-friendly nano-crystal technology and an intelligent re-mastering picture quality engine.  Just what you needed, right?

Sony SmartEyeglass Attach!

Sony has two products in development to counter Google Glass when it arrives, but its SmartEyeglass Attach! is really the one worth talking about.  It clips on to normal glasses with its miniature screen. Cool.

Or maybe not.

Toshiba ChihiraAico Robot

ChihiraAico is a what Toshiba call a communication Android – an early glimpse at the kind of robots that might be serving your breakfast in years to come.  The video says it all.

Sleep Number SleepIQ Kids Bed

This smart bed for kids monitors their sleeping patterns, can alert parents if they get out of bed during the night, can have its lights turned on and off remotely, and even includes a monster detector.

Gogoro Smartscooter

Gogoro’s Smartscooter is an electric scooter with a battery that you swap rather than recharge.  The scooter has a range of nearly 100 miles, so more than enough to get most people to work and back.  Gogoro plans on operating a series of hubs where batteries can be reserved ahead of time, then swapped for the one that’s running out. No set launch date or price yet.

Voxel8 3D printer

There are now quite a few 3D printers on the market, and plenty at the CES this year, but the Voxel8 is different than the rest. It is able to print electronic circuits rather than just plastic objects, using a fast-drying conductive ink that can be embedded in other objects.

Intel Curie

Intel has big ambitions in the wearables market, as evidenced by several acquisitions they made last year.  Now they have launched Curie—a button-sized device including Intel’s system-on-a-chip for wearable computing. The idea is that manufacturers will use Curie to give them a head start when making wearables, including preserving battery life.

VTSL’s VoIP Business Phone System

This wasn’t at the CES this year, but it is our favourite technology—it is VTSL’s VoIP business phone system, run on the award-winning Silhouette platform, where businesses can use the power of the cloud to work everywhere and anywhere seamlessly.  It IS the future, and if you want to know more about how this amazing VoIP business phone system can help your company, we would be happy to tell you.  info@vtsl.net.
